Operation Sindoor Exposed Pakistan as the Net Exporter of Terrorism: Amit Shah

Referring to the BSF's role in guarding international borders, including with Bangladesh, Shah said the neighbouring country should not forget the big role played by the BSF in its creation.

New Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday said that Operation Sindoor had exposed Pakistan as the net exporter of terrorism in India and displayed the "firm" political will of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the "precise" intelligence inputs from agencies and the "lethal" capabilities of our armed forces.

After Pakistan dared to target a few Indian civilian and military setups following Operation Sindoor on May 7, India hit terror targets as deep as 100 km inside the hostile neighbour’s territory and decimated nine terrorist camps, the minister said.

Delivering the Rustamji Memorial Lecture organised by the Border Security Force on the occasion of its 22nd investiture ceremony, Shah said that the border-guarding force has proved its mettle during this operation and did not allow nefarious Pakistani agendas to succeed.

Referring to the BSF's role in guarding international borders, including with Bangladesh, Shah said the neighbouring country should not forget the big role played by the BSF in its creation.

Lauding the bravery and contributions of BSF personnel in the 1971 War, the Union home minister said that it set an exemplary standard of bravery by standing shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces in fighting against injustice.

Hailing Operation Sindoor, the Union home minister said the Indian armed forces first hit the terror bases in Pakistan, but the Pakistan Army responded by trying to attack Indian civilian and military bases. "We launched Operation Sindoor and destroyed nine terrorist camps. It is important to note that we didn't target the Pakistan Army installations, civilians or air base,” he said.

“We targeted the terrorists, but Pakistan took it on itself and proved that it was Pakistan-sponsored terrorism,” Shah said, adding, “They dared to target our civilians but couldn't succeed in front of our air defence system. In response to which, we targeted their airbases and introduced our striking capability to them.”

Shah said in 2014, the BJP government was formed at the Centre and an attack was made on our soldiers in Uri. “We carried out a surgical strike in response to that attack. After that, the Pulwama attack happened. In reply to which, we did an air strike. Now, in Pahalgam, innocent tourists were killed after asking about their religion. Operation Sindoor was the reply to it. The world is appreciating us for this. I salute the Army,” he said.

The Union minister said that while responses to terrorist attacks have been given in many parts of the world, the response India has given is unique. After the attack in Pahalgam, we launched Operation Sindoor and, within minutes, destroyed nine terrorist bases, two of which were headquarters of terrorist organisations.

Operation Sindoor has also effectively showcased the success of self-reliant India in defence production, Shah added.

Shah said on behalf of the entire nation, he salutes more than 2,000 BSF martyrs who have made the supreme sacrifice while fearlessly walking the path of their duty with the spirit of supreme sacrifice from 1965 to 2025. He lauded the border-guarding force for demonstrating its might by responding to bullets with bullets at the border.

"As long as the BSF is present, the Pakistani Army cannot advance even an inch," he said.

K.F. Rustamji was the founding father and the first director-general of the BSF, the world's largest border guarding force with about 2.75-lakh personnel tasked to guard Indian borders with Pakistan on the west and Bangladesh on the east.
