Odisha to Give Rs 12,000 for Girl Child Birth Under Merged Mamata-PMMVY Scheme
State boosts maternal benefits and Anganwadi incentives in major welfare push from April 2025

The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, approved a landmark proposal on Wednesday to merge the state’s flagship ‘Mamata’ scheme with the Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY). The integration, effective from April 1, 2025, aims to enhance maternal and child welfare outcomes across the state.
Under the newly co-branded ‘Mamata-PMMVY’ scheme, financial assistance for mothers giving birth to a girl child will be increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000. Mothers delivering a boy will continue to receive Rs 10,000.
Special provisions have also been made for women from Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), who will receive Rs 12,000 for the birth of a girl child and Rs 10,000 for a boy for all live births.
The Cabinet also approved an increase in monthly incentives for frontline health workers. Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) will now receive Rs 250, up from Rs 200, and Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs) will get Rs 150, up from Rs 100—recognising their key role in maternal and child healthcare.
According to a notification from the Women and Child Development Department, the state government has earmarked approximately Rs 2,670 crore for the merged scheme’s implementation over the next five years.
Key Highlights of Mamata-PMMVY:
-
Rs 12,000 for mothers on the birth of a girl child; Rs 10,000 for a boy
-
PVTG mothers eligible for the same benefits for all live births
-
Anganwadi Workers’ incentives raised to Rs 250
-
Anganwadi Helpers’ incentives raised to Rs 150
-
Eligibility criteria will follow the Centre’s PMMVY guidelines
The Cabinet’s decision marks a strategic alignment of state and central welfare programmes, with a focus on promoting institutional deliveries, improving maternal nutrition, and encouraging gender equity through support for the girl child.
