Odisha Man Held for Sharing Ex-Girlfriend’s Intimate Photos on Social Media
The accused, identified as Samir Kumar Palei of Kabisurya Nagar in Ganjam district, worked as an executive at a private finance firm in Jajpur.
Bhubaneswar: A 27-year-old man was arrested in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Tuesday for allegedly posting intimate photographs of his former girlfriend on social media following their breakup, police said on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Samir Kumar Palei of Kabisurya Nagar in Ganjam district, worked as an executive at a private finance firm in Jajpur. According to police, Palei was in a relationship with a female colleague for nearly two years. The relationship ended in June, after which the woman blocked his phone number and cut off all communication.
Enraged by the breakup, Palei allegedly uploaded private photographs of the two on social media platforms. The woman’s family members stumbled upon the images online, prompting her to lodge a complaint at the Panikoili police station on Monday.
“Acting on the complaint, we registered a case and arrested the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act,” said Panikoili inspector-in-charge Ranjit Mohanty.
The Panikoili police said they are also investigating whether the accused shared the content with others or uploaded it to multiple platforms.
The accused was remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation was underway.
