Odisha Health Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling Inaugurates Healthcare Facility In Tribal Dominated Kalahandi

The facility aims to bridge critical healthcare gaps in remote rural areas by enabling timely access to specialist medical consultations without the need for patients to travel long distances.

Bhubaneswar: In a major push to strengthen healthcare access in Odisha’s remote tribal belt, Odisha health and family welfare minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling on Thursday inaugurated Vedanta Aluminium’s first-of-its-kind 24x7 telemedicine facility at Lanjigarh in the tribal dominated Kalahandi district. The initiative has been launched in partnership with Tata 1mg and is expected to benefit more than 70,000 people across nearly 70 villages in Kalahandi and adjoining regions.

The facility aims to bridge critical healthcare gaps in remote rural areas by enabling timely access to specialist medical consultations without the need for patients to travel long distances. A dedicated telemedicine room has been established at Vedanta Lanjigarh Hospital to facilitate assisted consultations for local residents, employees, families and business partners.

Through the Tata 1mg application, beneficiaries will also be able to access free audio and video consultations with nearly 30 specialist and super-specialist doctors round the clock, significantly improving access to quality healthcare services in underserved areas.

Speaking during the virtual inauguration, Dr. Mahaling described the initiative as an important step towards inclusive healthcare delivery in Odisha’s tribal and rural regions.

“Today’s launched 24x7 telemedicine facility is a meaningful intervention for improving healthcare access in Kalahandi, where timely medical consultation can make a critical difference. Vedanta’s wider contributions in healthcare, education, women empowerment and livelihoods demonstrate how industry can complement the state’s development priorities,” he said.

Vedanta Alumina Business CEO Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya said Odisha remains central to the company’s growth journey and community welfare continues to be a key focus area.

“With this telemedicine service, we are strengthening last-mile healthcare delivery for communities that need it the most. Our efforts across Kalahandi and Rayagada are helping bring remote regions into the socio-economic mainstream,” he said.
