BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government on Friday effected a reshuffle of six senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, changing assignments in the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Special Task Force (STF), Intelligence, and several police ranges.
According to a notification issued by the home department, Himansu Kumar Lal, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Northern Range, Sambalpur, has been transferred and appointed IGP, EOW, Bhubaneswar. He will also hold additional charge of the STF.
Satyabrat Bhoi, IGP, Northern Central Range, Talcher, has been appointed IGP, Intelligence, replacing Jai Narayan Pankaj. Bhoi was also holding additional charge as Principal of the Police Training College, Angul.
Jai Narayan Pankaj, who was serving as IGP, Intelligence, has been transferred and posted as IGP, Southern Range, Berhampur.
The present IGP, Southern Range, Niti Shekhar, has been transferred to the State Police Headquarters and posted as IGP, Provisioning.
In another change, Charan Singh Meena, who was serving as DIG, Provisioning, has been appointed DIG, Northern Range, Sambalpur.
Ashish Kumar Singh, who recently returned to Odisha following his repatriation from central deputation, has been appointed DIG, Northern Central Range, Talcher. He will continue to hold additional charge as Principal of the Police Training College, Angul.
The reshuffle comes amid a wider realignment of responsibilities within the state police establishment, with key changes in intelligence, economic offences, anti-organised crime operations and field policing.
The appointment of Lal to the EOW, along with additional charge of the STF, is particularly significant as both units handle specialised investigations and operations involving economic crimes and organised criminal activity.
The changes are expected to take effect immediately.
