Odisha Finance Dept Cracks Down On Transfer Defaulters, Warns Of Salary Freeze
OFS officers directed to join new postings by July 20; disciplinary action and stoppage of salary from July 21 for non-compliance
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government’s finance department on Monday issued a stern warning to Odisha Finance Service (OFS-I, Junior Branch) officers who have failed to comply with government transfer orders, stating that those who do not join their new places of posting by July 20 will face disciplinary action, including stoppage of salary.
In an official notification, the department said several OFS-I (Junior Branch) officers had been transferred through a government order issued on April 16, 2026. They were subsequently deemed relieved from their previous postings with effect from May 25, while the concerned controlling authorities were instructed to ensure their immediate release.
Despite these directions, the department noted that several officers neither got themselves relieved from their earlier postings nor joined their new assignments. A fresh order issued on June 18 had reiterated the government's instructions and warned that disciplinary proceedings could be initiated against officers who failed to comply with the transfer orders.
The department observed that repeated reminders had failed to yield the desired response, prompting it to adopt a stricter approach.
“It is observed that despite the orders and repeated directions of the Government, certain OFS-I (JB) officers under orders of transfer have neither got themselves relieved from their previous place of posting nor joined at their new place of posting. Such non-compliance amounts to willful disobedience of government orders and defeats the purpose of the transfer order,” the notification stated.
The latest directive requires all such officers to ensure that they are relieved from their existing posts and join their new places of posting by July 20 without fail. The department warned that officers who have already been relieved but fail to report at their transferred stations by the deadline may not be allowed to draw their salaries from July 21 until they assume charge at their new postings.
Officials said further action would be initiated against those continuing to disregard government orders in accordance with the applicable service rules. The move is aimed at ensuring administrative discipline and the smooth implementation of transfer and posting decisions across the finance department.
