Odisha Businessman Duped in Online Trading Scam
Cybercrime cases linked to fraudulent investment apps have been on the rise across Odisha, with state police authorities repeatedly urging citizens to remain vigilant against unsolicited investment offers.

Bhubaneswar: A businessman from Odisha’s Angul district has fallen prey to an online trading fraud, losing a staggering Rs 52.26 lakh to cybercriminals. The victim has been identified as Rajesh Saralia, a resident of Gandhi Marg in Angul town.
According to police sources, Saralia received an international phone call last month in which fraudsters persuaded him to invest through a trading application that promised high returns. Convinced by the assurances, he transferred the money in five installments across multiple bank accounts.
When Saralia later attempted to withdraw his investment, he realised that he had been duped. He subsequently lodged a complaint at the Angul Cyber Police Station on August 29. Acting on his report, police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Confirming the development, Angul Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ramakant Mahalik said: “The complainant was lured into investing through a fraudulent trading app via an international call. He deposited Rs 52.26 lakh in five phases but later discovered he had been cheated. A case has been registered, and investigations are underway.”
