Odisha BJP Set for Leadership Overhaul, New State Chief Soon

The Odisha unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on the brink of a significant leadership change, with discussions underway to appoint a new state president and heads of various government bodies.

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on the brink of a significant leadership change, with discussions underway to appoint a new state president and heads of various government bodies. The deliberations gained momentum on Wednesday as senior party leaders convened at the residence of Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo. The high-level meeting saw the participation of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, current state BJP president Manmohan Samal, state in-charge Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, and BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh, along with other senior party officials.

Sources revealed that the primary focus of the gathering was to build a consensus on key appointments within state-run corporations, commissions, and boards. The discussions are seen as pivotal for strengthening the party’s organizational structure ahead of the upcoming electoral challenges.

Addressing the media, BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh said, “Everything is being carried out as per a specific process. Odisha BJP will soon get a newly-appointed party chief. The electoral process is underway across the country, and a new president will be appointed in Odisha.”

Emphasising the party’s dedication, Chugh added, “The BJP is a party that works relentlessly. We do not function only during election seasons but remain committed throughout the year to the welfare of the people and the nation. Our party is cadre-based, where members work with dedication for years. It is this mission-driven approach that defines us.”

Among the frontrunners for the state president’s post is the incumbent, Manmohan Samal, who is likely to continue his role. However, other strong contenders include former state president Samir Mohanty, former Union minister Bishweswar Tudu, and senior leader Golak Mohapatra.

Party insiders indicate that the leadership decision is crucial for maintaining internal cohesion and enhancing electoral preparedness. The outcome is expected to significantly influence the BJP’s strategy in Odisha as the state heads towards crucial political battles with the Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal and Indian National Congress.

Besides the state president, the BJP is also contemplating appointments to key positions in state-run corporations and boards, a move that is expected to consolidate the party’s influence in administrative circles.

Political analysts believe that the party’s strategic reshuffle in Odisha is aimed at boosting its organisational strength and electoral prospects, particularly with the state’s political landscape becoming increasingly competitive.

“The BJP’s leadership transition in Odisha is being closely watched, as it could potentially reshape the state’s political dynamics. A formal announcement on the new state president and other key appointments is expected soon,” said Sriram Dash, a political analyst.
