NTA announced re-test for English, Commerce and Sociology
New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Sunday announced that it would re-conduct the UGC-NET June 2026 examinations for English, Commerce and Sociology after a committee found multiple errors in the question papers.
The re-examination for English and Commerce will be held on September 9, while the Sociology paper will be conducted on September 10. The three were among 87 subjects for which the UGC-NET examination was conducted in June.
The decision followed complaints from candidates over errors in the three papers. A committee constituted by the NTA examined the complaints and found factual, typographical and translation errors, besides other problems in the question papers.
The English paper also came under scrutiny over repetition of questions from an earlier examination.
The NTA concluded that the problems were sufficiently widespread to warrant re-conducting the examinations instead of addressing them merely by dropping erroneous questions during the answer-key challenge process.
The agency clarified that the re-examination of the three subjects would not delay the result process for the remaining 84 subjects. The answer-key challenge process for these subjects has already begun and their results, allocation of Junior Research Fellowship seats and issuance of eligibility certificates for assistant professor and PhD admission will proceed as scheduled.
Further details regarding the re-examination, including admit cards, will be communicated to candidates by the NTA.
