Nominations Filed For Datia By-Election; Narottam Mishra Steps In Line

Mr. Mishra said that the BJP has given everything to him as he had served as a minister for 15 years in the previous state governments and said that what more could he expect.

Bhopal: The candidates of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Opposition Congress on Monday filed nominations for the July 30 by-elections to the Datia Assembly constituency, setting off a promised high voltage campaign for the seat.

Shedding all his inhibitions, senior BJP leader and former home minister Narottam Mishra whose supporters had rampaged Datia city in the night-long violent protests on Friday following denial of ticket to their leader, Mr. Mishra, showed up during the filing of papers by BJP candidate Ashutosh Tiwari along with chief minister Mohan Yadav and state BJP president Hemant Khandelwal.

Later, addressing a rally by the party taken out on the occasion, he said that the party is above the individual for the workers of the BJP and he is a mere worker of the party.

Mr. Mishra said that the BJP has given everything to him as he had served as a minister for 15 years in the previous state governments and said that what more could he expect.

Congress candidate for the by-elections Ghanashyam Singh, a member of the ex-royal family of Datia, also filed nomination on Monday.

Prominent Congress leaders who were present on the occasion included former chief minister Digvijay Singh, state Congress president Jitu Patwari and Congress Legislature Party leader Umang Singhar.

The By-elections to the Datia seat, caused due to the disqualification of sitting Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti from the House following his conviction by a Delhi court in a bank fraud case recently, is scheduled to be held on July 30 and the results will be declared on August three.
