No Live-Streaming of Case Mentions in CJI Court

The Supreme Court stops live-streaming of case mentions before CJI Surya Kant and bars senior advocates from making oral mentions before any bench from November 2.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday stopped live-streaming of case mentions before the court of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.

Mentioning is a procedure through which lawyers or litigants appearing in person seek urgent hearings or early listing of cases, either orally or in writing.

The development follows the CJI's expression of displeasure on Tuesday after a lawyer mentioned a matter concerning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Disapproving of lawyers mentioning cases without clearly explaining the issues involved, the CJI described the practice as "the biggest nuisance" and said it "should stop completely".

In a circular, the Supreme Court also reiterated that senior advocates would not be permitted to mention cases orally before any bench from November 2.

"As directed by the Competent Authority, it is hereby reiterated that no Senior Counsel shall be permitted to make oral mentioning before any Court with effect from 02.11.2026. All concerned are hereby informed that young and junior counsels may, instead, be encouraged to make oral mentioning before the Courts," the circular stated.
