Nitish’s Son To Rally JD(U) Workers in UP

JD(U) MLC Sanjay Gandhi announced the visit on Saturday after a party function marking Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's 151st birth anniversary.

New Delhi: Bihar health minister Nishant Kumar, son of JD(U) president Nitish Kumar, will visit Varanasi on Sunday to address a party workers' conclave as the JD(U) prepares to expand its presence in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the Assembly elections.

JD(U) MLC Sanjay Gandhi announced the visit on Saturday after a party function marking Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's 151st birth anniversary.

"Our party has a presence in Uttar Pradesh and the workers there have expressed a strong wish that Nishant ji, who is our future leader, visits the state ahead of the assembly polls due in a few months from now," he said.

Gandhi said Nishant would undertake further tours of Uttar Pradesh to strengthen the party's organisation.

Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency, has a sizeable Kurmi population, a community to which both Sardar Patel and Nitish Kumar belong.

Asked whether the JD(U) would contest the Uttar Pradesh elections in alliance with the BJP, Gandhi said the party's alliance with the BJP in Bihar remained strong, but a decision on seat-sharing would be taken at an appropriate time.

"I can say that the JD(U) will contest the elections in UP and our alliance with the BJP is rock-solid," he said.

The JD(U) had contested 27 seats independently in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections but failed to win any, securing less than one per cent of the total votes.
