Nitish Kumar to Resign After April 10; Bihar Likely to Get Its First BJP Chief Minister

Mr Kumar is also expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi before the new chief minister of Bihar is announced.

New Delhi:The next chief minister of Bihar will likely take oath after April 13. Incumbent chief minister and JD(U) president Nitish Kumar is expected to resign from the post after April 10 and take oath as the Rajya Sabha member. Post that, the ruling NDA MLAs will meet in Patna to decide their leader and the next chief minister of the state.

According to the buzz, the state will get its first BJP chief minister, which has left the JD(U) workers upset despite Mr Kumar’s assurance that "nothing will change". Bihar deputy CM and BJP leader Samrat Chowdhury is among the front runners. The new chief minister will have a new council of ministers, for which there are many aspirants among the NDA allies.

Amidst the hectic parleys, Mr Kumar has called a meeting of the JD(U) leaders on April 6 in Patna. He will also chair the JD(U)'s national council meeting after he reaches the national capital to take oath as a Rajya Sabha member. Several key decisions are expected to be taken at the meeting.

Mr Kumar is also expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi before the new chief minister of Bihar is announced.
