NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued an advisory to NEET-UG 2026 candidates and their parents, cautioning against the submission of fake or AI-generated OMR sheets while raising complaints over score discrepancies.
The advisory follows the agency’s review of complaints regarding differences between expected and declared scores. During verification, the NTA found that several OMR sheets submitted for scrutiny appeared to be fabricated or generated using artificial intelligence.
In the advisory, the agency said: “NTA is closely monitoring and scrutinising all complaints. In the wake of many OMR sheets submitted for scrutiny turning out to be fake/AI-generated, students and parents are advised to submit only original OMRs for scrutiny. Any fake/AI-generated OMR may invite legal action against the complainant.”
The NEET-UG 2026 results were declared on July 16, with 11.21 lakh candidates qualifying. The examination scheduled on May 3 was cancelled on May 12 following allegations of a paper leak. The CBI is probing the matter, and the test was reconducted on June 21.
Following the controversy, the Centre announced that NEET-UG will be conducted as a computer-based test, replacing the pen-and-paper format.
Deliberations between the education and health ministries on shifting the examination mode have been ongoing for several years.
NEET-UG is the country’s largest undergraduate entrance examination, with nearly 25 lakh candidates registering annually. The test is conducted for admission to medical courses, including 1.08 lakh MBBS seats, of which around 56,000 are in government institutions and about 52,000 in private colleges. Admissions to undergraduate courses in dentistry, Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha are also based on NEET scores.
