NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday asked newly elected BJP Rajya Sabha members to engage actively with youth and adopt a youth-oriented perspective, stating that Gen Z is “result oriented” and prefers expressing its views before considering suggestions.
At a breakfast meeting with 37 BJP MPs, sources said the Prime Minister noted that young people are aware of global developments due to the “soochna visphot (information explosion)” and tend to compare situations across countries.
Modi advised MPs to remain mindful of their conduct in Parliament and public life and to treat parliamentary proceedings with “utmost seriousness and dignity”. He also cautioned them against getting drawn into the “Lutyen Zone racket,” sources said.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s residence at Lok Kalyan Marg, was attended by BJP president Nitin Nabin and BJP national general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santhosh. Former MPs from other parties who recently joined the BJP were also present.
The Prime Minister asked MPs to prepare thoroughly before speaking in Parliament and to attend proceedings regularly, even when not participating in debates, to improve their understanding of issues. He also responded to queries from MPs, including on managing work schedules.
Modi urged MPs to spend time in the Parliament library and ensure effective implementation of the MP Local Area Development Scheme with a focus on youth and sports activities in their constituencies.
He also called on parliamentarians to organise “Khelo MP Youth Games” to engage with young people and address issues such as addiction.
