New Delhi: Centre Cuts Rural LPG Refill Booking Gap to 25 Days; Parity Restored With Urban Users

NEW DELHI: In a major development, the government on Monday said that it has directed oil marketing companies (OMCs) to implement a 25-day liquefied petroleum gas or LPG refill booking interval uniformly across urban and rural areas with immediate effect. The restriction has been relaxed in view of the improved LPG supply situation across the country and a significant reduction in refill backlog as well.
Union minister Suresh Gopi on Monday confirmed a revision of the refill-booking interval in rural areas to 25 days, down from 45 days earlier due to pressure on LPG supplies following the Middle East conflict. “The central government has asked OMCs to implement the revised LPG refill booking interval of 25 days uniformly in both urban and rural areas immediately,” the minister said.
The move, however, means that rural LPG consumers will no longer have to wait longer than urban consumers to book a cylinder refill. “In view of the current LPG supply situation improving and the significant reduction in refill backlog, the central government has relaxed this restriction. Now, all domestic LPG consumers, regardless of urban or rural, can book refills at an interval of 25 days,” he also said in a Facebook post.
Earlier, the petroleum ministry, in a letter dated September 7 addressed to the chairmen and managing directors of IOCL, BPCL and HPCL, saying that the decision was taken in view of the improved LPG supply position and a considerable reduction in refill backlogs compared with the situation when the demand-management measures were introduced.
