NEW DELHI: The CBI has arrested a deputy controller of accounts posted in the information and broadcasting ministry as internal financial adviser (IFA) for allegedly accepting a Rs 10 lakh bribe through his wife to clear the renewal file of a private company, officials said.

The agency alleged that Sandeep, a 2020-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service officer, had demanded Rs 15 lakh from a businessman for processing the renewal file.

“After negotiation, the accused agreed to accept a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from the complainant to expeditiously process the renewal file for the private company's contract, which was pending before him,” officials said.

The CBI laid a trap on Tuesday and caught the officer allegedly accepting the Rs 10 lakh bribe through his wife, an agency spokesperson said in a statement.

“The strict action by the agency against corrupt public servants underscores its firm commitment to curbing corruption. Citizens who come across instances of corruption or are subjected to demands for bribes by public officials are encouraged to report such matters.” the CBI said.
