2 Teachers Killed by Maoists in Bijapur

Teachers suspected of being police informers; incident took place in forested Farsegarh region

Raipur: Two ‘Siksha Doots’, teachers appointed in government schools, were suspected to have been killed by Maoists in Bijapur district under south Bastar in Chhattisgarh, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place in the Indravati National Park area on Monday night.

The victims were identified as Vinod Maade, posted in Kondamadugu village as an education volunteer, and Suresh Metta, posted in Tekameta as a Siksha Doot.

The bodies of the two teachers were yet to be recovered due to difficult terrain, a senior police officer in Bastar said. Preliminary investigation suggested that they were killed by the Maoists on suspicion of being police informers.

The education volunteers scout for the school dropouts in their area of posting in Maoist-affected Bastar for admission in the schools, closed for almost two decades due to the Naxal threat and reopened recently.

As many as 24 civilians have been killed in Maoist violence in Bastar in 2025 so far, as against 71 deaths of civilians reported in 2024.
