Nashik Family Alleges 15-km Chase After Objecting to Woman's Harassment

Family claims group attacked them with iron rods and wooden sticks after they confronted men over alleged harassment at a popular tourist spot.

A family from Maharashtra's Nashik has alleged that they were chased for nearly 15 kilometres and attacked with iron rods and wooden sticks after objecting to the alleged harassment of a woman during a picnic at the Bhavali Dam and waterfall area in Igatpuri.

A video purportedly showing two men on a motorcycle, one of them carrying iron rods while chasing the family's car, has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention to the incident.

According to the family, eight members had visited the popular tourist destination for a Sunday outing when two men allegedly whistled at and sexually harassed one of the women in the group.

The woman said the men began harassing her as the family was preparing to leave the picnic spot.

"We had gone for a picnic. We had our food, played in the water, and then we were leaving. That's when two people there called out my name and started harassing me," she said.

The family alleged that when the woman's husband confronted the accused over their behaviour, the men turned aggressive.

According to the family, the accused chased their vehicle for around 15 kilometres, repeatedly intercepting it before attacking the occupants and damaging the car using wooden sticks and iron rods.

The incident has sparked concern over the safety of tourists at the popular waterfall destination.

Police are expected to investigate the allegations. However, an official statement on the incident or details of any arrests were not immediately available.
