Mystery Deepens In Serial Death Of 8 People In C’garh Village, 6 More Bodies Exhumed For Forensic Tests

The bodies of six more deceased people, exhumed on Tuesday, also to the Dr. B R Ambedkar Hospital in Raipur for postmortem, local sub-divisional officer of police Koushal Kishore Wasnik told this newspaper.

Raipur: Mystery deepened over the serial death of eight persons, said to be the victims of human sacrifice, in Kharve in Chhattisgarh’s Baloda Bazar district with the police exhuming six more bodies on Tuesday to conduct postmortem. On Saturday, the body of one of the eight deceased, was exhumed and sent for postmortem to the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Hospital in Raipur.

The eight people died in suspicious circumstances over a period of three months between February and May this year. The local villagers alleged that all the eight were served liquor laced with poison by grocery shop owner Ramsai Jaiswal to kill them as part of human sacrifice to hunt for the hidden treasure, according to the police.

Ramsai denied the allegations during his interrogation by the police. “So many theories are floating in the village over the deaths of eight villagers. The cause of deaths could be ascertained only after postmortem examinations of the bodies”, asid Koushal Kishore Wasnik, local sub-divisional officer of police. It may take 10-12 days to get the postmortem and forensic test reports, he said.

Wasnik said that the preliminary investigation by the police suggested that the trader has links with the eight deceased people, directly or indirectly.

The villagers had earlier staged demonstrations at the Kasdol police station demanding a probe into the deaths of eight people, leading the cops to exhume the body of one of the deceased on Saturday.

All these seven deceased people, whose bodies were exhumed in the last four days, belonged to Kabir Panthi and were buried after their deaths as per the customs of the sect. The other deceased, a Hindu, was cremated.

“I am not in a position right now to reach any conclusion. A parallel inquiry by the police is going on to verify the theories floating in the village”, the police officer said.
