MP: Passion For River Conservation Wins Job Offer For MP From Environment Body

BHOPAL: A 21-year-old science graduate from a Madhya Pradesh town has won many hearts nationally and internationally and subsequently a job-offer from a reputed conservation body for his determination to cleanse a river that has become a cesspool of trash.
Surendra Singh Choudhary, known among his friends as Bittu Tabahi, has ‘singlehandedly’ cleaned nearly two thirds of Ajnar River in Biaora in Rajgarh district being undeterred by criticism by people who called it a ‘publicity stunt aimed at earning views on social media’.
He often posts videos showing him cleansing the river of wastes, algae, and plastic materials on Instagram, leaving people to describe his works as reel content.
“I post videos of my works on social media for motivation. But people initially misunderstood me thinking that I am doing this for a good reel content. But the criticism never distracted me from my work. I have already cleansed the three ghats of the river and am determined for conservation of the water body”, he said on Saturday.

The youth launched his mission ‘clean Anjar’ on the occasion of Republic Day on January 26 this year and hardly took a break from his work since then.
He has already spent Rs 30,000 from his pocket to buy equipment and a dustbin for removing the wastes from the river.
He has posted two contrasting pictures of the polluted river before he launched his mission and the current state of the water body.
The local municipality body later joined hands with him to free the river of the trash.
Interestingly, the youth took up the cause of conservation of the river ‘singlehandedly’ despite having no knowledge of swimming.
His mission caught the attention of social media users.
Boyan Slat, the founder and CEO of Netherlands-based non-profit ‘The Ocean Cleanup’, offered him a job after watching a post of his work on social media.
“Come work for us”, he posted on X.
