MP Mantri’s ‘Where There Is Road, There Will Be Pothole’ Remark Stirs Row, Congress Calls It ‘Irresponsible’

State Congress president Jitu Patwari reacted sharply to the minister’s remarks, regretting that Mr. Singh is trying to validate the potholes by making such a statement.

Bhopal: A row has erupted over the recent remarks by Madhya Pradesh public works department (PWD) Rakesh Singh that ‘Where there is road, there will be pothole’ with the Opposition Congress on Saturday terming it a ‘highly irresponsible’ statement.

State Congress president Jitu Patwari reacted sharply to the minister’s remarks, regretting that Mr. Singh is trying to validate the potholes by making such a statement.

“It is a shocking and highly irresponsible statement by the minister. The poor conditions of the roads and the irresponsible statement of the minister reflected the insensitivity of a person sitting in the cabinet minister’s chair’, he said.

The Congress leader alleged that roads in major cities in Madhya Pradesh are potholed and people suffered due to the bad condition of roads particularly during the monsoon.

“It appears that potholes are not on roads, but roads are on potholes”, he quipped.

The minister while addressing a press conference here recently to give clarification on the flawed designs of two Railway Over Bridges (ROBs) in Bhopal and Indore fielded a question by the reporters on bad road conditions, saying, ‘As long as roads exist, potholes will be there’.

He had however explained that the lifetime of a road is four years and the government always either repair the roads or lay them afresh when they get damaged.
