MP/ Indore Tragedy: Financial Assistance For All Deaths In Area Affected By Water Contamination, Mohan Announces

Bhopal: Amid debate over the death toll due to the water contamination in Bhagirathipura in Indore in Madhya Pradesh, chief minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday announced that financial assistance would be given to the families of all the deceased people in the area.
Mr. Yadav indicated that he would not join the debate on the number of deaths due to the water contamination in the area since even the loss of life of a single person is painful.
Hence, it has been decided to provide financial assistance to the families of all those who died in Bhagirathipura after the outbreak of the water borne diseases, irrespective of causes of their deaths.
He has earlier announced assistance of Rs two each to the families of the deceased.
The official death toll has been put at six due to water contamination on the basis of the ostmortem reports.
However, two more people in the area died on Wednesday taking the death toll to 20 since the outbreak of the water borne diseases.
Postmortem reports of several of the deceased were yet to be received by the health department, sources said.
The state government has already released the financial relief to the families of 18 people, died in the area, and announced that the assistance will also be granted in the case of two deaths, which occurred on Wednesday.
Sources said that 18 fresh cases of diarrhea and other water contaminated diseases were reported from Bhagirathipura on Wednesday.
Of them, six were admitted to different hospitals in Indore.
Of the 429 patients who were admitted to different hospitals since the outbreak of water borne diseases in the affected area, 330 have been discharged so far.
As many as 125 patients were currently undergoing treatment in different hospitals in Indore.
Sixteen of them were currently in intensive care units (ICUs).
