MP Hikes Price Of Farmlands 4 Times Of Market Rate For Acquisition For Govt Projects In Rural Areas

BHOPAL: Amid the stir by the farmers over the land acquisition for the Ken-Betwa river-linking project, Madhya Pradesh government on Wednesday declared a hike in the price of farmlands by four times the market rate in rural areas in the state.

The state cabinet which met here under the chairmanship of chief minister Mohan Yadav approved the proposal to further increase the purchase price of the agricultural land being acquired for different government projects in the rural Madhya Pradesh to benefit the farmers.

The existing land procurement price was two times the market rate which has been increased to four times the market rate, as the cabinet decision.

The decision will apply for the acquisition of agricultural land for different government projects in the rural areas.

The move comes amid the stir by the farmers being affected by the project to interlink rivers of Ken and Betwa in the state.

However, in the case of acquisition of land in the urban areas for the government projects, the existing system of purchasing the land at the market price will remain unchanged.
