MP UCC Draft Deadline Pushed to July 26; Monsoon Bill Doubtful
The six-member committee headed by retired supreme court Justice Ranjana Prasad Desai was scheduled to submit the UCC draft Bill to the state government by July five: Reports

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh government has extended the deadline for submission of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) draft Bill by the committee, constituted for the purpose, to July 26, raising doubts over the prospect of tabling a legislation in this regard in the upcoming monsoon session of the Assembly.
The six-member committee headed by retired supreme court Justice Ranjana Prasad Desai was scheduled to submit the UCC draft Bill to the state government by July five.
However, looking at the progress of the preparation of the draft UCC Bill, the member secretary of the committee has sought extension of the deadline for submission of it to July 26, sources said.
The state government has endorsed the proposal to extend the deadline, sources added.
Chief minister Mohan Yadav has earlier indicated that the UCC Bill will be placed in the monsoon session of the House and the Bill may be passed during the session.
The monsoon session of the House commences on July 20 and is scheduled to end on July 24.
Hence, doubts have been raised if the Bill could see the passage in the House during the upcoming monsoon session.
However, sources said that it may also happen that the committee may submit the draft Bill before the closure of the monsoon session to ensure its passage in the House.
