MP: ‘Dead’ Woman Returns to Release Father, Brother, Accused of Murdering Her, From Jail

Bhopal: A woman, declared dead in the police records, appeared before the cops in her village in Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur district to help release her father and brother, accused of murdering, from jail, officials said on Thursday.
The young woman who had gone missing from her village of Khaknar on April 24 took the police by surprise when she appeared at the Khaknar police station late on Wednesday night to testify that she is alive while filing a plea to release her father and her brother, accused in her ‘murder’, from the jail.
“Sir, I am alive, please release my father and brother”, the woman, identified as Shivani, pleaded, police said on Thursday.
According to Khaknar police station in-charge, Abhishek Jatav, Shivani had gone missing from her village on April 24 and the missing report was filed on May one.
During the course of investigation, it was found that a youth, identified as Arjun, hailing from her village, was also missing,leading to suspicion that the girl might have eloped with him.
Arjun’s missing report was filed on May nine.
Later, the Maharashtra police recovered a charred body of a woman in the Jalgaon Jamod area of the state and contacted the Burhanpur police to identify the body after going through the list of missing women in the country.
Based on the information provided by the Khaknar police, the body was identified as Shivani, police said.
Following the development, the police investigation into the case took a new dimension with the needle of suspicion pointing to Shivani’s father Bapurao and her brother Ajay.
Her father and brother were later arrested on charges of her murder and sent to Buldhana jail, police said.
According to the police, Shivani contacted her family to inform them that she is alive when she learnt that her father and brother were sent to jail on charges of her murder.
The police started the process of her identification when she appeared at the Khaknar police station.
She was identified through thumb impressions and government identity cards.
This apart, her family members also identified her before the police.
The police initiated the legal process to see that her father and brother are freed from the murder charge and released from the jail.
