MP: Cops Crack Jabalpur Bank Heist Case, Identifies ‘Mastermind’

According to the police, the miscreants had taken a house on rent in Indrana village near Khitola a week before they looted the bank to conduct a recce on it.

Bhopal: Police on Thursday cracked the August 11 bank heist case in Jabalpur district in Madhya Pradesh by identifying the alleged mastermind in the daylight robbery.

The alleged leader of the robber gang has been identified as Raees Singh, a resident of Patan in Jabalpur district, a senior district police officer told this newspaper, requesting not to be quoted since he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Singh has been released from a jail in Odisha recently and he had allegedly planned the robbery in the ESAF Small Finance Bank branch in Khitola, nearly 50 km from district headquarters of Jabalpur, on Monday, in his prison cell along with some undertrials, hailing from Bihar, the police officer said.

The gang along with their leader have however so far proved elusive for police.

“Investigation into the case is going on. Evidence is being gathered. I hope they will be arrested very soon”, Jabalpur district superintendent of police Sampad Upadhyay told the media.

A reward of Rs 30,000 has been announced by the police on the robbers’ gang.

Around 14.5 kg of gold worth over Rs 14 crore and a cash of Rs 5.7 lakh were looted by a group of six armed robbers in the bank on Monday.

The gang members armed with country-made guns had stormed the bank and looted the booty in a matter of just 15 minutes.

According to the police, the miscreants had taken a house on rent in Indrana village near Khitola a week before they looted the bank to conduct a recce on it.

The police raided the house and recovered the weapon suspected to be used in the crime, sources said.

Several suspects have been detained for interrogation, police said.
