MP: BJP Hails Acquittal of All 7 Accused in Malegaon Blast Case

Terms it a victory of ‘truth and Sanatan Dharm’ but Congress wants verdict challenged in higher court

Bhopal: The BJP here has hailed the verdict by the special NIA court in Mumbai on Thursday acquitting all the seven accused including the former MP from Bhopal Pragya Singh Thakur in the 2008 Malegaon blast case.

The Opposition Congress has however sought the verdict to be challenged in the higher court.

Welcoming the verdict, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav said it has exposed the conspiracy to defame the Hindu religion and Sanatan Dharma by setting a narrative of ‘saffron terror’ by some Congress leaders.

“The verdict is a befitting reply to those who sought to defame the Hindu religion and Sanatan Dharm”, he said.

Mr. Yadav said the Congress should apologize for this.

Former chief minister Uma Bharti has hailed the decision by the court to acquit all the seven accused in the case, saying that she is not able to find words to express her happiness.

Mr. Bharti who celebrated the acquittal of the accused in the case by distributing sweets and bursting fire crackers at her official bungalow here said it shocked her how Pragya was tortured in the police custody after being arrested in the case.

Former state BJP president Vishu Dutt Sharma also welcomed the verdict and demanded a public apology from the senior Congress leaders such as former chief minister Digvijay Singh and former Union home minister P Chidambaram for allegedly coining the term ‘saffron terror’.

Congress has however sought the verdict to be challenged in the higher court.

Congress MLA Arif Masoon said the Maharashtra government should challenge the verdict in the higher court.

Congress veteran and former chief minister Kamal Nath however sought to steer himself clear of the issue saying that “Whatever be the verdict, it has to be accepted since it is a court verdict”.
