BHOPAL: A toddler, who saw his mother being murdered. walked barefoot without food and water for 20 km in a dense forested tiger corridor, along Vidisha-Raisen districts in Madhya Pradesh, before being rescued by the police. The two-year-old boy was completely exhausted, dehydrated and also traumatised from witnessing the killing of his mother by his father.
“The kid looked pale, and was so thirsty and hungry that he devoured the food offered to him in an unusual hurry,” local sub-divisional officer of police (SDOP) Sonali Gupta said on Monday. The boy was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he was stabilized, the police officer, posted in Begumganj area of Vidisha district, said.
According to the police, a 25-year-old man carried his wife and son in a motorcycle to an isolated, forested area, coming under Hydergarh police limits in Vidisha district, and allegedly killed his wife by crushing her head with a stone, on Saturday.
He fled the spot along with his son in the motorcycle and abandoned the toddler and the two-wheeler near a stream, around two km from the crime spot, before leaving the place. The kid walked in the forest, known for housing wild animals, for nearly 20 km before being rescued by the police.
The accused was meanwhile arrested by the Hydergarh police, but he did not reveal the whereabouts of his son. The Begumganj police launched a search operation in the jungle after being alerted about the missing kid on Saturday night.
