Modi to Visit Varanasi Today for Launch of Some Development Projects

According to an official statement, Modi will lay the foundation and inaugurate multiple development projects worth around Rs 2,200 crore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit his parliamentary constituency Varanasi on Saturday and launch and lay the foundation for a host of development projects worth around Rs 2,200 crore.

Security arrangements have been tightened in the city due to the VVIP movement, with a multi-layered deployment of personnel along the routes to be taken by the Prime Minister, officials said. Modi is also scheduled to address a public meeting at Banauli (Kalika Dham) village in the Sevapuri Assembly segment.

According to an official statement, the projects span multiple sectors including infrastructure, education, healthcare, tourism, electricity, urban development, rural development, and cultural preservation.

Among the major infrastructure projects, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the widening and strengthening of key roads such as the Varanasi–Bhadohi road and the Chhitauni–Shool Tankeshwar road. He will also inaugurate a new railway overbridge at Hardattpur, which will ease congestion on the heavily used Mohan Sarai–Adalpura stretch. Additionally, he will lay the foundation for several road projects in urban and rural areas, including corridors at Lahartara–Kotwa, Dalmandi, Gangapur, and Babatpur. Two more railway overbridges will be initiated at Level Crossing 22C and Khalispur Yard.

To strengthen power infrastructure in the region, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of works under the Smart Distribution Project and the undergrounding of electrical infrastructure, with a total investment exceeding Rs 880 crore.

In the tourism and heritage sectors, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the redevelopment of eight riverfront Kuccha Ghats and development works at Kalika Dham. Other projects include beautification of the pond and ghat at Rangildas Kutiya in Shivpur, and restoration and water purification at Durgakund.

Foundation stones will be laid for the restoration of Kardameshwar Mahadev Temple and the development of Karkhiyaon, the birthplace of several freedom fighters. New City Facility Centres will be developed in the Sarnath, Rishi Mandvi, and Ramnagar Zones. The Prime Minister will also initiate the redevelopment of author Munshi Premchand’s ancestral house in Lamahi and the upgradation of the associated museum. Urban greening and recreational facilities will be enhanced through the development of an Urban Miyawaki Forest at Kanchanpur and the redevelopment and beautification of Shaheed Udyan and 21 other parks.

In the environment and drinking water sectors, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation for water purification and maintenance works at several sacred ponds or kunds, including Ramkund, Mandakini, and Shankuldhara. The installation of four floating pujan platforms is also planned. He will inaugurate 47 Rural Drinking Water Schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission to ensure access to potable water in villages.

In education, Modi will inaugurate the upgradation of 53 school buildings within the city and lay the foundation for a new district library, along with renovation works at Government High Schools in Jakhini and Lalpur.

Healthcare initiatives include the inauguration of advanced medical equipment facilities such as robotic surgery and CT scan systems at Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital. The foundation stone will also be laid for a new Homoeopathic College and Hospital. An Animal Birth Control Centre and a Dog Care Centre will also be inaugurated.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will also release the 20th instalment of the PM-Kisan scheme, benefitting crores of farmers across the country.
