Modi: 'Maha Jungleraj' In WB Needs To End
TMC opposes SIR to save infiltrators; Bad weather keeps PM away from rally: Reports

Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday dubbed the Trinamul Congress rule in West Bengal "maha jungle raj" and urged the people to vote out the ruling party in the upcoming state Assembly elections. Mr Modi also accused West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's party of opposing the special intensive revision (SIR) to protect "ghuspetia" (infiltrators) in the state and briefly tried to woo the Matuas, a community of Hindu migrants, by hailing their iconic leaders.
Mr Modi launched the scathing attack on the TMC while virtually addressing the BJP's "Parivartan Sankalpa Sabha" at Taherpur in Ranaghat of Nadia from Kolkata airport after his helicopter failed to land in the area because of poor visibility due to dense fog over the region. He was forced to return to the Kolkata airport, from where he later delivered about a 15-minute address in a virtual audio mode and apologised to the crowd for his inability to visit.
Referring to the BJP's victory in the neighbouring Bihar, Mr Modi said, “Bihar rejected jungle raj. It gave the BJP-led NDA more seats than before despite 20 years of rule in the state. Now we have to get rid of the maha jungle raj that is prevailing in Bengal. That's why West Bengal says, 'banchte chai, BJP tai' (We want to live, hence want the BJP).”
The Prime Minister then raised the infiltration issue and linked it with the SIR to sharpen his attack on the TMC. “The BJP’s honest efforts have ‘go back ghuspetia' written on them. Unfortunately, the anti-people party is now shouting, ‘Go back, Modi.’ It cannot say 'go back' to ghuspetiye… and remains mum on them,” he alleged.
“Ghuspetiye, who are determined to grab Bengal, are dearest to the TMC. This is the real face of the TMC. They are opposing the SIR to protect ghuspetia. Look at Tripura in our neighbourhood. The Communists prevented Tripura's development for over 30 years. People gave us a chance there. We tried to take Tripura forward according to their dreams.”
Drawing a comparison with Tripura, Mr Modi argued, “In Bengal also, riddance from the Communists came. There was a hope that something good would happen. But the TMC adopted all the 'bad practices' and people of the Left parties. As a result, corruption, nepotism and appeasement of the ruling dispensation in Bengal have increased many times and prevented development in the state. Bengal is rapidly ravaged by the TMC, while Tripura is rapidly progressing under the BJP government.”
The Prime Minister said: “Let the TMC oppose Modi and the BJP as much as it can. But I fail to understand why the development gets stopped here. They are free to oppose Modi but should not pain and deprive the people. Give BJP a chance to build a double-engine government and see how fast development happens here."
“Modi wants to do many things for you. He wants to devote himself to work for the development of Bengal. There is no dearth of will, schemes and funds for Bengal. But the government here remains busy in cuts and commissions. Thousands of crores of development projects have still been stuck here,” he added.
