BHUBANESWAR: A minor boy who got trapped inside a narrow rock crevice in a forest in Odisha’s Nayagarh district was rescued safely on Tuesday after a painstaking five-hour operation by emergency responders.
The incident occurred between 11:30 am and 12 noon near Kanipada village under Odagaon police limits, when the boy had ventured into the forest at Baunsagadia to collect honey. While entering a narrow gap between two large rocks, his head became stuck, leaving him unable to free himself.
Passersby who noticed the boy in distress alerted the Odagaon police, following which emergency services were mobilised through the 112 helplines. Police personnel, along with fire services teams, rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
Initial attempts to free the boy using heavy jacks were abandoned due to concerns that any shift in the massive rock could endanger his life. Subsequently, a specialised strike force team from Bhubaneswar, equipped with advanced tools, joined the operation.
Rescuers carefully chipped away portions of the rock to widen the gap and create space for the boy’s head to be extricated. Throughout the operation, personnel maintained constant communication with the child to keep him calm, while closely monitoring his condition.
Officials said the operation was carried out with utmost precision, with technical teams supervising every step. A jack was later used in a controlled manner to slightly lift the rock and facilitate the rescue.
The boy was eventually pulled out safely and rushed to Odagaon Hospital for a medical examination. Authorities confirmed that no major injuries were reported.
Family members, who were present at the site during the rescue, expressed relief after the successful operation. Fire service teams from Nayagarh remained on standby throughout to respond to any emergency.
