Meta Blocks Access to Pro-Umar Khalid Instagram Account in India

Meta has restricted access in India to an Instagram account campaigning for the release of jailed student activist Umar Khalid.

The instagram handle, @free.umarkhalid had around 48,000 followers, where it used to provide developments of the khalid's case, and share calls for his release.

Users attempting to access the account from within India are shown a standard notice stating that the content is unavailable because the company complied with a legal request.

The company has not publicly disclosed the specific grounds for the restriction, consistent with its practice of not commenting on individual government takedown requests.
