Mentally Challenged Woman Raped, Murdered In Odisha; Neighbour Held
According to police, the woman was found dead near her house on Friday.
Bhubaneswar: A 45-year-old mentally challenged woman was allegedly raped and murdered by her neighbour in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, police said on Sunday.
The accused was arrested and produced before a local court, they said.
The incident took place at Chowkidarpara village under Kutra police limits in Sundargarh district.
According to police, the woman was found dead near her house on Friday. Initially, her family members did not suspect any foul play and performed her last rites.
However, suspicion arose after the relatives allegedly found bloodstains inside the house of their neighbour, Dipak Chhura, following which they informed the police.
Police detained Dipak for questioning in connection with the woman’s death. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to sexually assaulting and murdering the victim inside his house on Friday, police said.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway, they added.
