Massive Landslide Caught on Camera in Uttarakhand

The widely circulated video shows part of the slope giving way within seconds, sending up clouds of dust as debris moves down the hillside.

Dehradun: A massive landslide was reported in Uttarakhand’s Kumaon region on Thursday, with dramatic video footage showing a large section of a mountainside collapsing and tonnes of rocks, soil and debris cascading downhill.

The widely circulated video shows part of the slope giving way within seconds, sending up clouds of dust as the debris moves down the hillside.

The exact location of the landslide within the Kumaon region and the extent of damage were not immediately clear.

There was also no immediate official confirmation of casualties or damage to houses, roads or other infrastructure.

The incident follows unsettled weather in Uttarakhand, including heavy rain in lower areas and snowfall at higher elevations in recent days.

Earlier spells of rain had triggered landslides and disrupted road connectivity in parts of the hill state.

Reports said authorities advised residents and tourists to exercise caution and stay away from unstable slopes and landslide-prone areas.

The India Meteorological Department, however, had no state-wide weather warning in force for Uttarakhand on Thursday.
