Manipur Crisis Hits Social Ties, Education and Economy: CM Khemchand

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on Monday said the prolonged unrest in the state has adversely affected inter-community relations, education and the economy.

He made the remarks while inaugurating a newly constructed mothers' market at Andro and two bridges over the Thoubal river at Khungdongbam Mapa and Wangkhem Siphai Leikai in Andro constituency of Imphal East district.

The CM said peace is the foundation of development and the unrest has disrupted social harmony, affected the education of the younger generation and hurt the state's economy.

Appealing to all communities in the hills and the valley to cooperate in restoring peace, Singh said he looked forward to rebuilding the Manipur that existed before May 3, 2023, when all 36 communities lived together in harmony.

Singh also announced that the government would sanction Rs 10 crore for the construction and improvement of small inter-village roads in Andro constituency.
