Iron pipe carrying Independence Day flag comes into contact with 11,000-volt power line

A man died and another suffered severe burns after an iron flagpole came into contact with an 11,000-volt overhead power line in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhikharipur village.
A man died and another sustained severe burns here after an iron pipe carrying an Independence Day flag came into contact with an 11,000-volt high-tension power line, police said on Sunday.The incident occurred on Saturday evening in Bhikharipur village in the Narhi area when the flag was being lowered after an Independence Day ceremony at a private library, they said.
According to the police, the iron pipe on which the flag had been hoisted came into contact with the overhead high-tension power line and got electrified. Two youths, including library owner Rakesh Yadav, suffered severe burns after coming into contact with the electrified pipe.
Family members and villagers rushed both to the district hospital, where Rakesh Yadav succumbed to his injuries. The other injured youth, identified as Durgesh, is undergoing treatment, police said. Narhi SHO Harishankar Singh said the body had been sent for post-mortem examination.
