Bhubaneswar: In a gruesome and shocking incident, a man allegedly beheaded his uncle and surrendered before the police, carrying the severed head in his hands. The incident took place late Friday night at Talapainsari village under Keonjhar Sadar police limits in Odisha’s Keonjhar district.
The victim has been identified as Hari Dehuri. According to preliminary information, the accused, Kabi Dehuri, reportedly lured his uncle to a nearby field under the pretext of a conversation, while most villagers were engrossed in watching ‘Danda Nacha,’ a traditional folk dance performance.
Police sources said Kabi attacked Hari with an axe, decapitating him at the scene. Soon after committing the crime, he walked into the Suakati police outpost and surrendered, carrying his uncle’s severed head.
Although the exact motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, investigators suspect long-standing family disputes and personal enmity may have triggered the act.
Following the incident, a team from Keonjhar Sadar police station reached the crime scene and launched an investigation. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, and the accused is currently in custody for further interrogation, police confirmed.
