Major Reshuffle in J&K Police: 14 Senior Officers Shifted in Wide‑Ranging Overhaul

The changes reflect a broad administrative realignment across key wings of the police force, from CID and Security to Zonal Commands and District Leadership.

Srinagar:The Jammu and Kashmir Police Department underwent a significant reshuffle on Thursday, with fourteen senior officers—including several IPS‑rank officials—relieved from their existing assignments and moved to new postings.

The transfers were ordered through Government Order No. 438‑Home of 2026, and took effect immediately. The changes reflect a broad administrative realignment across key wings of the police force, from CID and Security to Zonal Commands and District Leadership.

In the new order, M. K. Sinha, IPS, previously serving as ADG Headquarters, has been appointed ADG CID J&K, replacing Nitish Kumar, IPS, who has now been posted as ADG Armed Police J&K. Uttam Chand, IPS, IGP Police Operations and Services at Police Headquarters, has been transferred to head IGP Railways, J&K, replacing Vivek Gupta, while continuing to hold additional charge of Police Operations until further instructions.

A major zonal shift saw Bhim Sen Tuti, IPS, move from IG Jammu Zone to become IG Headquarters, J&K, whereas Tejinder Singh, IPS, formerly IG CID, has taken over as IG Jammu Zone. In the Kashmir division, Sujit Kumar, IPS, earlier IG Security, has been posted as IG Kashmir Zone, filling an existing vacancy. Meanwhile, Vivek Gupta transitions from Railways to become IG Security J&K.

The order also designates Shakti Kumar Pathak, IPS, as the new Director, Anti‑Corruption Bureau, marking a key leadership change in the state’s anti‑graft machinery. At the DIG level, Mubassir Latifi Ameer, IPS, DIG Personnel at Police Headquarters, who also held additional charge of DIG Training, has now been posted as DIG IR Kashmir.

Several district‑level postings were also reshuffled. Sahil Sarangal, IPS, SSP Handwara, has been transferred to serve as SSP Pulwama, while Sunny Gupta, IPS, Additional SP Anantnag, has been elevated as SSP Kishtwar, replacing Naresh Singh. In turn, Tahir Saleem Khan, JKPS, SO to IG Kashmir Zone, has been posted as SSP Handwara, and Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, JKPS, SSP SCW Kashmir, will now serve as SO to IG Kashmir Zone. Completing the list, Naresh Singh, JKPS, formerly SSP Kishtwar, has been transferred to take charge as SSP Rajouri.

This sweeping reshuffle signals a strategic reorganisation within the J&K Police, aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and leadership across critical divisions.
