Mahua Moitra Moves SC Over Alleged Eviction From Bengal Circuit House
TMC MP alleges Nadia officials forced her to leave state-owned property despite having an allotted room; court declines urgent listing.

Moitra alleges harassment and seeks an independent probe into the late-night incident in her Krishnanagar constituency.
NEW DELHI: Trinamul Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Monday moved the Supreme Court alleging that Nadia district administration officials in West Bengal had evicted her from a government circuit house despite allotting her a room there.
The Supreme Court refused an urgent listing of the matter.
A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana was told by her counsel that the incident had occurred late at night in her Krishnanagar constituency.
“The matter requires an independent investigation. This has happened despite the High Court already having passed a protective order. I am only praying for listing on an early date because this involves an important constitutional issue,” Moitra’s lawyer said.
In a social media post, Moitra claimed that a large crowd had gathered outside the circuit house on the night of August 14 and shouted “Jai Shri Ram” slogans after she refused to leave the premises.
She subsequently wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking his intervention over the Nadia district administration’s alleged attempt to force her to vacate the circuit house after initially allotting her a room. She also threatened to approach the court over the alleged harassment.
Moitra had checked into the circuit house in Krishnanagar for an overnight stay following a Parliament session. She asserted that, as an MP, she was entitled to stay there but was pressured by district officials to leave in the middle of the night.
In her letter to the Speaker, she claimed she had not been informed of any booking restriction either when she reserved the room or when she checked in.
