MUMBAI: In a remarkable achievement, Maharashtra has bagged two prestigious Gold Awards at the National Awards for e-Governance (NAeG) 2026, highlighting the state’s strong push for digital transformation at the grassroots level.
Kadepur Gram Panchayat in Kadegaon taluka of Sangli district has been honoured with the Gold Award in the category ‘Grassroots Level Initiatives by Gram Panchayats for Deepening/Widening of Service Delivery.’ Meanwhile, the Health Department of Nandurbar Zilla Parishad received the Gold Award under the ‘District Level Initiatives in e-Governance’ category for its flagship project ‘e-Aarogya Dhamni.’
According to officials, Kadepur has emerged as a trailblazer in rural digital governance by becoming the first Gram Panchayat in the country to implement a fully paperless e-Office system. The panchayat has successfully delivered over 1,355 online services to 4,321 beneficiaries. The integration of digital payment systems has boosted revenue collection by 21 per cent.
The panchayat has deployed eight Artificial Intelligence-powered applications that assist in meeting summarisation, scheme eligibility checks, Government Resolution extraction, smart noting, data analysis, and automatic RTI reply generation. It has also implemented Blockchain technology for tamper-proof record-keeping and used GIS-based geo-tagging for 309 houses, resulting in an additional revenue of approximately Rs 7.5 lakh from house tax.
Kadepur has also achieved 100 per cent timely resolution of 1,736 citizen grievances through the Meri Panchayat App. All 60 Gram Sabha meetings were conducted digitally via the Nirnay App. Notably, it is the only Gram Panchayat in India to have formally approved policies on e-Governance, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, and Robotics.
Nandurbar Zilla Parishad’s e-Aarogya Dhamni initiative has leveraged digital tools to significantly improve healthcare delivery in the district’s remote and tribal areas, making quality medical services more accessible and responsive to citizens.
The awards will be conferred during the 29th National Conference on e-Governance, scheduled to be held in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on July 1 and 2, 2026. Each Gold Award winner will receive a trophy, certificate, and a cash incentive of Rs 10 lakh.
This national recognition underscores Maharashtra’s commitment to technology-driven, transparent, and citizen-centric governance, particularly in rural and underserved regions, said officials.
