Maharashtra Ties Up With TIIS To Train Tribal Youth
Under the programme, students will receive hands-on training in emerging sectors such as advanced manufacturing, electric vehicles (EVs), robotics, industrial automation, 3D printing, electronics, and EV battery technology

The initiative aims to equip students from Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities with modern technological skills aligned with evolving industrial demands.
Mumbai: In a bid to bridge the gap between tribal youth and industry requirements, the Maharashtra Tribal Development Department (TTD) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tata Indian Institute of Skills (TIIS), Mumbai, to provide advanced, industry-aligned training to 240 tribal students.
The MoU was signed between TTD Secretary Vijay Waghmare and TIIS Chief Financial Officer Mayank Palan. Under the programme, students will receive hands-on training in emerging sectors such as advanced manufacturing, electric vehicles (EVs), robotics, industrial automation, 3D printing, electronics, and EV battery technology.
The initiative aims to equip students from Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities with modern technological skills aligned with evolving industrial demands. This will be the first formal training programme implemented through the Tribal Research and Training Institute (TRTI), Pune, under the TTD.
According to the department, selected students will undergo experiential learning in state-of-the-art laboratories, with an emphasis on industry-standard competencies. “TIIS has also assured placement opportunities for students who successfully complete the training programmes,” a senior official said.
The institute was selected for its industry-aligned curriculum, modern training infrastructure, and strong focus on high-growth sectors.
The official said the selection process will be conducted through a structured screening and aptitude-based admission procedure administered by TIIS, along with verification of eligibility criteria and caste validity certificates. “The TRTI will bear the training fees and accommodation expenses for the selected candidates,” the official said.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Waghmare said the department prioritises providing tribal youth with access to globally relevant technological training. He described the collaboration as a long-term investment in strengthening employability and creating sustainable career pathways for tribal students through government-industry partnership.
“Providing tribal youth with opportunities for world-class training in advanced technology sectors is a priority of the department. The MoU with TIIS goes beyond skill development and aims to build a strong and sustainable foundation for the future employability of tribal students. Through joint participation of the government and industry, new opportunities will be created for the advancement of tribal students, promoting their overall development,” he said.
