Madhya Pradesh: 40 Crore Devotees Expected To Turn Up In Simhastha Kumbh Mela- 2028, Infrastructure Being Developed At A Cost Of Rs 25,000 Crore: CM Yadav

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday said that around 40 crore devotees are expected to turn up at the Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Ujjain in the state, scheduled to be held in 2028.

The Simhastha Kumbh Mela is a massive Hindu religious pilgrimage and festival held once in every 12 years in Ujjain city, famous for the Mahakaleshwar temple, where one of the 12 Jyotirlingas is worshipped.

It takes place on the banks of the sacred Shipra River when Jupiter enters zodiac sign Leo (Simha).

The mega spiritual event is scheduled to run continuously from March 27, 2028 to May 27, 2028.

At least four crore devotees are expected to turn up at the Simhastha-2028, Mr. Yadav said while addressing a training workshop on the theme ‘Experience of Simhastha- 2016, Resolve for Simhastha- 2028’ in Ujjain on Saturday.

He said that ‘Clean Simhastha, Healthy Simhastha’ is the guiding resolution of the government while emphasizing the safety of millions of pilgrims on the occasion.

He said that special emphasis should be laid on crowd management, emergency services, and rapid response systems.

The chief minister informed that development projects worth more than Rs 25,000 crores are currently underway in Ujjain and surrounding districts to facilitate the devotees arriving from across India and abroad.

With newly constructed and upgraded ghats, nearly four crore devotees will be able to take holy dip within 24 hours.

He said that committees for the upcoming Simhastha would soon be constituted, bringing together experienced people from all sections of society so that their valuable suggestions can be accommodated.

He said that road, rail and air connectivity infrastructures would be upgraded keeping in view the mega spiritual event.

Sharing details of ongoing preparations, he said that new ghats extending over 29 kms are being constructed on both banks of Shipra River at a cost of Rs 778 crore to provide safe and convenient bathing facilities for the devotees.

Existing permanent ghats spanning 7.8 kms are being upgraded at a cost of Rs 120 crore.

The Ujjain-Indore six-lane highway, costing approximately Rs 1,692 crore, is nearing completion.

Similarly, to facilitate smooth crowd movement, 22 new bridges are being constructed, and existing bridges are being widened at a cost of Rs 853.46 crore.

A Central Digital Command Centre is being developed at a cost of Rs 139 crore for real time monitoring, crowd management, traffic regulation, and emergency response.

The Centre will feature integrated CCTV surveillance across Ujjain city and fair area, AI-based crowd management and advanced emergency coordination system.
