Bhopal: 4 Die After Train Fire Rumour

The incident occurred around 4.15 pm between Hetampur and Dholpur railway stations under the Jhansi railway division: Reports

BHOPAL: Four passengers, including a five-year-old child, were killed near Morena in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday after getting off the Khajuraho-Udaipur Intercity train following a rumour of a fire and being run over by the Firozpur-Seoni Patalkot Express, police said.

The incident occurred around 4.15 pm between Hetampur and Dholpur railway stations under the Jhansi railway division.

According to preliminary reports, rumours of a fire triggered by a mobile phone blast led to panic among passengers. Someone allegedly pulled the emergency chain, bringing the Khajuraho-Udaipur Intercity to a halt.

Police said three women and a child got down from their coach and moved onto a nearby railway track. Minutes later, they were run over by the passing Firozpur-Seoni Patalkot Express and died on the spot.

The deceased included a woman and her five-year-old son.

“The incident took place on the border of Morena district in Madhya Pradesh and Dholpur district in Rajasthan. Two police teams rushed to the spot after receiving information from a local villager,” Morena superintendent of police Dharmaraj Meena said.

Personnel from the Railway Protection Force, Government Railway Police and the local administration reached the spot and launched rescue operations.

“The bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem and efforts are on to inform the family members of the deceased,” the officer said.
