Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha Adjourned Amid Opposition Protests

Protests Over Gujarat Plant and Waqf Bill Disrupt Proceedings

The Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 PM on Thursday as opposition members raised protests over the alleged allocation of a plant to a businessman in Gujarat. The opposition accused the government of cronyism, demanding a thorough investigation into the matter. Members from the Congress, TMC, and other parties staged vociferous protests, demanding that the government clarify the issue.

The uproar disrupted the proceedings, with Speaker Om Birla urging the opposition to maintain decorum. Despite repeated attempts to bring the house back to order, the protest continued, leading to the adjournment.

In the Rajya Sabha, the session was adjourned till 11:20 AM following a similar uproar. Opposition members raised concerns over the tabling of the Joint Committee of Parliament's report on the Waqf Bill, demanding further discussions and scrutiny.

The bill, which deals with reforms to the administration and management of Waqf properties, has sparked debate across the political spectrum, with the opposition questioning its provisions. In response to the protests, Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu urged members to allow the proceedings to continue smoothly, but the session was adjourned due to the disruption.

Both houses are expected to reconvene after the brief adjournment, with key issues like the Waqf Bill and the Gujarat plant allocation likely to dominate the discussions.
