Ahmedabad: In a landmark operation, Indian Railways successfully transported a live heart from Surat to Ahmedabad for the first time using the Mumbai Central–Gandhinagar Capital Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 20901).
The organ was delivered within the critical time window and will be transplanted at the U.N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre.
The mission involved seamless coordination between Indian Railways, Gujarat Police, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), and medical teams. A green corridor was established from Platform No. 1 at Ahmedabad Railway Station to the hospital, ensuring quick and uninterrupted transport of the heart for the life-saving transplant.
