SRINAGAR: Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta on Tuesday asked for imparting inclusive education for monks in the region’s monastic institutions, asserting that learning mainstream subjects alongside religious studies will create a diverse learning environment.
During a meeting with the Ladakh Buddhist Association and Ladakh Gonpa Association at the L-G Secretariat in Leh, Gupta stressed appointing adequate teachers in gompa schools to ensure quality education and imparting vocational skills to young monks for self-reliance.
An official statement issued in Leh also said that Ms. Kunzes Dolma, a UNESCO GRO–Geothermal Training Program fellow, met the Lt. Governor to discuss training in geothermal energy, gender equality, fisheries, and other fields at the GRO Centre in Iceland, fully sponsored by the Icelandic government.
It added that a delegation of Rehbar-e-Khel teachers also raised their concerns with the Lt Governor. The erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir had several years ago launched a scheme known as "Rehbar-e-Khel” which literally translated means a "Sports Guide" with the primary aim of boosting sports education in schools by employing local youth as physical education teachers on a contractual basis.
Reaffirming the UT Ladakh administration’s commitment to green energy and a carbon-neutral Ladakh, the Lt. Governor highlighted the need to promote renewable energy initiatives,” the statement said, adding “To ensure quality education, he assured the formulation of proper recruitment rules to appoint qualified teachers, strengthening Ladakh’s education system”.
