Kolkata: Suvendu: Census Starts In WB From Aug, Will End In Feb
The second phase will see the Census officials conducting house listing operations from August 16 to September 14 as part of field operations: Reports

KOLKATA: The Census operation will start from August 1 in West Bengal. It will be held in two phases till the end of February next year. Chief minister Suvendu Adhikari announced this during the inauguration of Principal Census Officers’ Conference at the state secretariat Nabanna on Friday.
He also blamed the previous government of Trinamul Congress for almost a year-long delay behind the launch of the exercise and underlined the “constitutional obligation” of the drive-in wake of a "demographic change" and the 600 km-long unfenced India-Bangladesh border in the state.
Mr Adhikari pointed out that while the Centre issued the notification for Census operations on June 16 last year, the TMC government did not implement it here to play politics. He called it ‘unfortunate.’ After BJP came to power, the state government issued the corresponding notification on May 11.
The first phase of the exercise is self-enumeration which will begin on August 1 with the CM completing his part, said director, directorate of Census Operations, West Bengal Rashmi Kamal. It will continue till August 14.
During this period, citizens will have the option of digital self-enumeration, enabling them to submit their details online without waiting for enumerators to visit their households. Several digital platforms and mobile applications have been developed to facilitate smooth implementation of the Census.
These are self-enumeration portal: se.census.gov.in, a census management and monitoring system portal, HLO Mobile App and HLBC Mobile App. The citizens can also access Census-related information specific to the state through westbengal.census.gov.in.
The second phase will see the Census officials conducting house listing operations from August 16 to September 14 as part of field operations. The Census operations will continue thereafter, culminating in the reference date of March 1, 2027. A toll-free helpline number, 1855, has also been launched to assist citizens.
