A bicycle without a front wheel would normally signal a breakdown. For Kerala cyclist Saneed, however, it is the very feature that makes his extraordinary journey possible. The civil engineering graduate from Kannur is attempting an arduous journey from Kerala to Everest Base Camp in Nepal, riding a specially modified bicycle with no front wheel. His mission goes beyond adventure and record-setting as he wants to spread the message “Say No to Drugs” across India.
Saneed, who is also an interior designer and professional bike stunt rider, says he has around 12 years of experience performing and practising bicycle stunts. He also said his team trains Indian Army personnel for parade stunts.
The cyclist is no stranger to cycling. He earlier completed a ride from Kanyakumari to Kashmir on a bicycle without a front wheel, covering around 7,000 kilometres. Now, he has set his sights higher, undertaking his latest journey from Kerala towards Everest Base Camp. He says he normally covers around 50 to 60 kilometres a day, while his longest distance covered in a single day has been about 150 kilometres.
“Riding without a front wheel is very difficult compared with normal cycling, but I have 12 years of experience,” Saneed said.
For him, however, the toughest part of the journey is also the message.
Through his ride, Saneed wants to encourage young people in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and across the country to stay away from drugs and instead channel their energy into activities they are passionate about. Saneed hopes his unusual journey will draw attention not merely for the feat itself, but for the anti-drug message he carries along the way.
