AAP alleges Kejriwal convoy attacked

New Delhi:The poll battle for Delhi on Saturday took an ugly turn, with the AAP alleging that party chief Arvind Kejriwal's car was attacked by the BJP supporters, while the saffron party claimed that three of its workers were hit and injured by the former CM's car during campaigning in the New Delhi constituency by the ruling party's volunteers.
The AAP accused the BJP of orchestrating the assault on Kejriwal through its goons to disrupt his campaign, fearing a loss in the Delhi elections. “Today, the BJP goons attacked Mr Kejriwal with stones while he was campaigning in the New Delhi constituency. The video of this incident is publicly available,” said a party spokesperson.
Senior AAP leader and former deputy CM Manish Sisodia took to X after the incident and posted, “The BJP is a party of frustrated cowards! Lacking the courage to fight Arvind Kejriwal Ji’s work, they resorted to attacking him through their goons. There can be no politics more vile and disgraceful than what the BJP is indulging in. The BJP must understand that the public will now give a befitting reply to this.”
CM Atishi also accused the BJP of resorting to ‘goondaism’ because they fear defeat in Delhi polls. “First, the BJP turned Delhi into the gangster capital. Now, are they planning to bring jungle raj to the elections? Losing the elections, so now they attack Arvind Kejriwal Ji? This stone pelting reflects the BJP’s frustration over their defeat. To the BJP: Every time you resort to ‘gaali-galoch’ and ‘goondaism’, the love and votes Delhiites give to the AAP will only increase,” she posted on X.
Launching a counterattack, the BJP alleged a "deliberate attempt" to run over three of its youth workers by Mr Kejriwal’s car. Later, the injured party workers were rushed to the Lady Hardinge Hospital for treatment.
BJP candidate from New Delhi constituency Pravesh Verma said, “The man who once won the trust of the people by calling himself a ‘common man’ has now turned into an autocrat intoxicated by power. The barbaric treatment meted out to three innocent individuals for simply asking questions has not only shaken democracy but has also scarred the very fabric of humanity”.
“First, the Punjab police mercilessly thrashed them with batons to silence their voices. When even that wasn’t enough, they were run over by a vehicle in a horrifying act of cruelty. Ask yourself — can such heinous acts be justified by any leader who claims to serve the people? Has asking questions now become a crime?" Mr Verma said.
Amid the charge and countercharge between the AAP and the BJP, the Delhi police clarified that no one pelted stones at Kejriwal's car, but some people were trying to show black flags to the former chief minister, who were immediately removed from the spot.
